Pain Delay

When I was at the doctor's office today I had just one question to ask her.

Me "Why does it feel like I bruised my tailbone when my tush is so well cushioned as to render that impossible?"

Dr. P "Well....(flipping through file) I see you had a lot of back labour and the baby was facing the wrong way. Often this can result in pelvic injury that is not noticed until the next pregnancy. We have to be cautious, we wouldn't want you to break anything during delivery."

Me "Oh joy."

Dr. P "If you are very uncomfortable, you can take some Tylenol."

The thing is, I am uncomfortable, but not Tylenol uncomfortable, shooting up illegal drugs uncomfortable. As I move around it gets better, but I look like a wounded gazelle getting out of bed in the morning. According to Dr. P, the good sign is the baby is low and getting ready for the main event. The sooner the better says I. While I am grateful that the baby is healthy and doing well, I would rather my arms and not my pelvis be cradling it right now.

In other news, Teresa has read my mind and keeps stroking my belly and asking the baby to come out. She wants to meet mystery baby as well. I have told her the baby will be here to stay, and she seems okay with that concept for now....and I can't wait for them to be introduced.

Showing off the ladybug and bumble bee we made

I asked her to smile for the camera....maybe I should cancel the beauty pageant head-shots:)

Teresa took the batteries out of one of her toys and stuck them to the magnets herself.

It's Review Time & I'm Bored

Anyhow, exams begin Monday and students are working hard on their review packages in front of me and are randomly coming up for help...  Exciting times, and I realized that during this time I could post something.  We don't have any pictures that are too new but I remembered that we have neglected posting any of Teresa's pictures.  She got a Fisher Price camera from her aunt Andrea for Christmas and loves it!  She goes around and is constantly using it (until the AAA batteries die - normally 1-2 days of her advanced use).  She also tends to take self portraits because it is easier for her to hit the button on the front as it faces her, and the flash either washes her out completely (80% of pictures) or she deletes the pictures before I can upload them (just keep hitting the X button to do that - I got a great picture of the 2 of us once, but she deleted it before I learned that she could do so :(  )

Besides the great picture she took of Myrna's crotch at Christmas, here are the other highlights from her camera.

Testing the camera, Ray demonstrates the correct procedure to say "The moose is loose"
Another non- Teresa taken picture, but she is awful cute.
This is the normal type of picture that she takes of herself.  Note the beautiful detail to on her turtleneck
She actually got  picture of her face!  Yay!

The Sweet Sound of Silence

Today Teresa fell asleep on me. This was a sweet surprise since she tends not to nap if I am anywhere near her, and hasn't since she looked like this:

When she was little Teresa would nap on me all the time, and I adored it. She would snuggle into me, then wake up all sweaty on one half of her face, dozy and ready to eat. It was lovely. But, since she started sleeping in her own bed (It has been quite a while now) cuddling and sleeping on Mommy's lap is tres passe.

Today though, today was different. She woke up too early from her nap, so I cuddled her on our chair. Usually this ends is stories and giggles, and as I looked down I noticed her gangly toddler body was curved around mystery baby and her eyes were closed. Any responsible mother would have woken her I suppose, but I just rocked, stroking Teresa's hair and feeling mystery baby squirm away. I just sat and enjoyed this quiet moment with my most precious beings and reveled in being a mom. It was awesome.

When she is awake, Teresa is a budding artist.

Note her very mature use of colour and composition....what a star:)

Being a librarian is cool again....

I saw this Pearls Before Swine strip the other day and thought of Pearl.....may the pure joys of the thought help combat the inevitable Valentine decorations about to invade her office:) New pictures of Teresa can be viewed in 2 days, promise.

The face of literary innocence....where do you hide the glock Pearl?

Puppies rule

So a big congratulations goes out to Jackie and Tony, new owners of this cute little number, Louie.

He is a great dane, and I can't wait to meet him. I wish Rowdy was coming out with us in March so that Louie would have someone to beat up on, ah well.

In other news, Baby Blues was too true for me not to add it.

Some random stuff...

Well, I have been quite busy in the first week back realizing how much work there still is to do.  I am in the midst of taking a break from writing an exam while watching football and decided I should write an update.

The only thing I can really think about commenting on is that Teresa & I went to her first swimming lesson yesterday.  For some reason I thought that magically her fear of not being able to touch the bottom of the pool would be cured by lessons.  She was pumped up to swim until she realized what it meant.  In the end, we compromised and she went down two steps and played a bit in the water, as she would at Grand.  It is incredibly frustrating though as she loves being in the water when she can run around on her own.  I think it is just that she prefers being independent.

Beyond that I am posting a few pictures of her baptism anniversary celebration.  We had both of her godparents and she got to eat grilled cheese & fries which she loves...

Yummy!
Admiring her gift from Sarah - a Mother Teresa doll
Can't have a party without cake & ice cream
Teresa giving Rowdy a beautiful angel hat
Playing with her trucks...  She will get mad if you call the bulldozer anything other than a CaterpillarTM. Teresa also likes lining them up like a train and makes her Little People (including the bunny rabbit) drive them.
Cara was taking pictures and Teresa really wanted a picture of herself with Teddy...

To suck or not to suck.....that is the question.

This week was THE week, the week we took away the soother. Teresa only used it to fall asleep, but the fact was I really liked it that she fell asleep, and stayed asleep for long periods of time. Teresa is the type of kid that usually rolls with the punches, but her disposition has changed a bit since turning two, and she really likes her soother. I had visions of sleepless scream filled nights with Ken in his earplugs and I in Teresa's room, trying desperately to shut her up. So I put it off. I said it was because Christmas is a crazy time, but the real reason was I already get up a billion times a night to pee, I don't need a screaming child on top of that.

But yesterday we couldn't put it off any longer. We had warned Teresa for a few days that this was coming. We said all the normal stuff, you're a big girl....yadda yadda. She herself threw both her soothers in the garbage, she said goodbye, all without noticeable trauma.

Then.....naptime. She cried, I went in, we cuddled, she felt better. Teresa felt so good she decided to hell with napping and played in her bed for two hours. Okay, well, at least she didn't cry the whole time.

Bedtime hit and she was in bed sleeping at 7:30. Because I was not at home Ken was in charge and said she cried for a little while then fell asleep. Much to my surprise Teresa only woke up three times. Once I went in, gave her a hug and kiss and she went back to sleep. Ken did the same the second time, and the third time.....she fell back asleep all on her own. I'm thinking this is not so bad, all these episodes coincided with my bathroom breaks anyway.

Today Teresa did not ask for her soother. She napped in the afternoon and did not cry when we put her to bed at night. She has not woken up so far, and it looks like things will only get better from here. We just have to give her time to learn how to fall asleep without the aid of Gerber, but she's a smart kid, she'll figure it out. I think that it helps that Ken and I are not too sentimental about crap like this. The fact is Teresa is a big girl. She is potty trained, is close to being out of her night diaper and speaks in full sentences. She does not need a soother to fall asleep, she just likes having one. Well, I like getting pedicures every week, but sometimes it's just a pipe dream. So adios dear soother, it's been a blast.

I actually had to go way back to find a picture of her with the soother, apparently we don't take enough pictures of her sleeping.

See, I'm so old I wear sweater vests!
