Cara's Last Day of Work

Here are a few pictures of Cara in her classroom at Springfield Collegiate on her official last day of work. We had a nice day, we went out for breakfast (at the Original Pancake House, duh...) and then I drove her to work and saw her classroom for the first time and got a tour of the school. Apparently it looked way nicer with stuff on the walls. Afterwards, I carried some stuff home for her and then did a few errands as we would be leaving SCI straight for Grand Beach when her day was done. On the way our I had a short discussion with a nice police officer about the location of a stop sign. Fortunately I got off with a warning, clearly his monthly quota (target, whatever) had been met, When I got back to the school Cara still had a couple of things to do so we brought Rowdy in and got the stuff done. Cara said a few final goodbyes, and left with an array of emotions pulsing through her...

The top picture is of Cara sitting near the front of her classroom where she would often be doing her teaching from. The middle picture is of her archaic foods classroom that she never had to use, and the last picture is of her behind her desk. I stole her nameplate for her.

I will blog about the beach Tuesday night.

Nothing New

I figured I should be posting something so people know we are alive still. There is nothing new to report. Cara has 2 days of school left and I am done. Her feet are already swelling up like baloons so we can hardly wait until the full heat of summer strikes!

Besides that, we are going to Grand Beach for the weekend and have been slowly getting the baby's room ready.

Tuesday's Visit to the Doctor

We went to the doctor's today, and Cara was to have her test for gestational diabetes so we made sure we had a hearty lunch as they suggested. We went to Pancake House where I had a Giant Ham & Cheese with enough cheese to cause a heart attack in a blue whale. As it turns out we were fortunate to have eaten that much.

We got there at 1:28 for our 1:30 appointment. One of the wonderful things about the Canadian health care system is how it doesn't concern itself with the patriarchal, white man's imposition of time... As a white (future) patriarch though I was getting distressed at 1:55 when we hadn't been called into a room. I have to admit I was tempted to claim we were the 'Tara' who was called and actually asked if they meant Cara. Sadly not. We finally got into a room at 2:00, and Cara was told not to bother with the blood sample yet as it would slow things down and it could easily be done after the appointment. Apparently they overestimated the time a blood sample would take as it took the nurse less than 5 minutes to get our results to us post visit, while we waited a few more minutes than 5 for the doctor. Actually it was more like 1000% longer than that. At 2:50 the doctor entered the room! I should have brought a short feature length movie as we would have finished it with time to do a Siskel & Ebert analysis too! The visit took less than 10 minutes and we were out by 3:10 after the blood test was done.

Not much to report, the progression is normal and the ultrasound was fine, with the date being bang on September 15th again. They listened for the heart beating and Little Yostie doesn't like things pressed against his home, as Cara said he was hoofing the thing the entire time. For pulse watchers out there it was 140 this time out. Cara's diabetes number was a touch above normal, but still well under where they worry about performing further tests.

After that we went to CBS to donate blood (me only, as Cara is ineligible) and saw Dianne who was so excited to see that we were expecting. For those who may recall, Dianne was our swim instructor at the beach when we were mere midgets. After a quick donation, straight off to WalMart to pick up some painting supplies and then home. I dropped Cara off as I was to get my hair cut, seeing as I now look like some hippy folk singer. Not a minute from the house, Cara calls. Rowdy threw up in his kennel and had diarrhea sometime between noon and 4. I turned around and helped out at home. We took him to the vet though as I was concerned that the TBone from the steaks on Sunday maybe splintered and hacked him up inside. Turned out there were no bones, rather just a pile of gas left. We were told the marrow is quite fatty and causes some problems. Unfortunately for Rowdy his food is going to be boiled ground beef and white rice for a few days while on antibiotics and now all bones will go in the garbage! Ah well, a costly learning experience for us!

What a long day it was...

Kicking Some More!

It is official today, the kid can finally lay the boots to Cara hard enough to hurt her!  She was sitting on the couch and suddenly said "OUCH!" because Little Yostie hoofed her.  We see the doctor on Tuesday.

My Birthday Party

We had a number of people over last Friday night to celebrate my birthday and Cara took a few pictures of the cake. It was a tasty devil's food with the brightest yellow icing I have ever seen. School is beginning to wind down now and a restful summer awaits.

Flixster

Found something neat-o today online.  It is atool that lets you rate a pile of movies and compare your ratings to loved ones etc...  My ratings are scrolling lower on the page, or check kyost.flixster.com

Nothing much new...

Just pointing out that Cara has entered her 3rd trimester.  Fortunately her horomones & emotions have been consistently normal.

Have I mentioned that I sleep with ear plugs now?

Cara

I figured I would give all you out of towners that haven't had a chance to see Cara for a while see how she's doing...

Here's a picture from before the SPHS staff party from last night, she was one of three pregnant ladies there (although I suspect a 4th!). Enjoy.

My Birthday

Well it is June 7th and I am 28 today... Figured I should point that out.

Cara is starting to get tired again as she approaches the beginning of the 3rd trimester. In the near future I plan on painting the baby room and getting it together. Besides that not much else to report. Exams begin tomorrow, so my year is near a close.

Grand Beach

Well, we made it to the cottage this weekend... At long last. Overall it was a fantastic weekend. We left early Saturday morning and made it out there in time to enjoy a scorching day, and was the water ever cold. We forgot the camera this weekend, but for those that want some help recalling stuff, I have posted a couple of pictures from last year.

Saturday afternoon Ed Wach showed up to do some preliminary work on a septic tank, water tank and toilet. Yes, you read that right. All it took was a grandchild coming down the pipe to get our cottage into the 21st Century (but don't make your cell phones or laptops with DVDs too obvious when dad is out, he'll be unimpressed!) For those who care about the Piping Plover: This year there are again three of them. This time they reside at East Beach, in the last parking lot, and the 2nd parking lot. The last lot has been pretty much shut down for them, and they will likely book off more space in the 2nd soon enough. This means the long weekend will be CRAZY for parking. In other news the Osprey has not returned to his nest in the lagoon, although the one by the Hydro station is back.

First I took Rowdy for a big walk, which ended up taking us to Spirit Rock, and he took a trail down to the lake in the rocks and had a short, nerve wracking swim. Then I returned to the cottage long enough to drop him off and put a swim suit on. After a long walk to the channel and swim, I went home and the steaks still hadn't defrosted so we brought Rowdy with us to East Beach, and had a good time for an hour or so. Cara was too warm on the sand and the water was too cold, so she compromised and put her feet in the water which helped reduce the swelling that is becoming more common. Unfortunately this means Little Yostie has yet to taste the sweet sweet waters of Grand Beach.

Sunday was a dreary morning and it rained a bit off and on until 4ish. Cara took Rowdy out for a short jaunt and I took him out for a longer jaunt. On that walk I brought a ball and threw it into the lagoon by the bend in the road after the fork into the campsite. While there I saw pelicans, cormorants and a HUGE fish swimming in the shallows (about 1.5 feet long). I got this idea seeing a chocolate Lab doing it the night before on the way home. Rowdy is pretty good on the rocks, but every now and again goes a little quick and his paw slips between rocks which scares him. Nevertheless he can easily drop down from big rocks to small ones.

After getting home, Cara and I lazed around reading and I finished my Physics Exam. After that we watched the John Cleese episode of the Muppet Show and we went back out for another short walk which involved making Rowdy swim in the lagoon again. After dinner we cleaned up and went to the front beach for a swim. Cara took care of Rowdy as we were on the West Beach and there were still Beach Patrol out at 7:00.

Random beach related observations: Lanky's now has a frequent user's card (Buy 12, get 1 medium free), someone is moving into Rosie's Bakery as there was activity and a sign that said something about renovations, I have seen the biggest cottage ever on Point Road facing the lake IT HAS CENTRAL AIR!, Rowdy loves to swim and loves chasing squirrels, the park signs are hilarious (Dogs are welcome in the park, but aren't allowed anywhere fun), Bill & Diane are doing great, Cara has troubles with the heat, TBeach is still open.

After a great day we finally made it home around 9:00.
