Home!

Well we are now home and Cara has fed & changed Teresa.  Now she is fussing.

Life is good (and tiring!)

The Godfather Visits (sans dead horse heads)

Teresa's Godparents are my sister Sarah in Ann Arbor, and our friend Jeff Leclerc. Here they are!

Cute Pics

As Teresa is fussing about a feeding after being woken up & had a diaper change I figured I would add a couple more pictures to the mix. They go without needing an explanation

UPDATE!The fussing is over, and the feeding is going well...

p.s. Soon enough this blog will take 8 years for anyone to open who doesn't have High Speed b/c there will be so many pictures to download. Sorry in advance!

Teresa's Eating....

Teresa lost 5 ounces since yesterday, which is only a touch of a concern, as she is allowed to lose 5% of her body mass before they get concerned.  She seems to be latching on exceptionally well to Cara and feeds for a fair amount of time.  Of course I am not allowed to post a pic of this event :)

Right now it looks like they will be sending us home tomorrow around noon - 1:00.  We'll see though based upon the weight loss.  Beyond that, I need to point out that Notre Dame has a towing policy during rush hour, even if youare a new father that happened to sleep in!

Pics of Teresa

Firstly, I would like to thank the unnamed person who has the unsecured wireless network on Notre Dame named 'linksys' because without you I could not get these updates online! Seriously, this is 2006 and there are no hotspots I can pay to use in Manitoba's #1 hospital? Pathetic! Grandma & Grampa Friesen have already stopped in along with Auntie Andrea.

Interesting fact: First Yost relative to meet Teresa after her exit from the uterus shall be KEVIN! He has Rowdy at the lake right now. Long story.

And now for the pictures...

Here is Cara right before she is brought to the delivery room...

Here is the first pics of Teresa right after she was cleaned off by the nurses...

I got to hold Teresa first (and tell Cara the gender too!)

Cara smiling after it is done...

Teresa sleeping! BTW her eyes are BLUE!

Mom & kid's first time together...

2 cute pictures of Teresa & mom melowing out & talking!

It's A Girl!

At 12:47 pm, Teresa Anne Yost came into the world weighing 8lbs, 3 oz and a full head of hair.

Cara's labour lasted about 12 hours, and we are both exceptionally tired. I would post pictures, but I forgot the camera cable!

Labour goes on...

After a full night of being on labour drugs, they had to lay off because the baby's heart rate was dropping.  We got a bit of sleep after the epidural.  Cara is back on the inducing drugs because her contractions are spacing out a bit now.  Last time she was checked she was over 8cm, and 10 is what we need to push!

Soon.  We are both a wee bit tired.

In The Hospital...

Water has been broken, it is now time to let it progress!  Little Yostie nears.

Ultrasound...

Had one today, and all is well.  Blood flow through the cord is fine, and the baby is abvout 8-8.5 lbs right now.  We see the doctor to discuss options tomorrow.

Also, I might add that the ultrasound picture could only fit the foot or fist (we have more, will scan & post in the future), when the whole kid fit before.  Scary.  We couldn't see the face either because it is buried in Cara's pelvis.  Hopefully the water breaks tonight!

Nesting

This is Cara, with my first post. I felt the need to inform all of you that Ken, yes Ken, is nesting. He claims he's just "helping" around the house, and I believed him until he started cleaning the screens and the seal around the kitchen windows. It's soooo cute.

As for me, I'm feeling fine and keeping positive. I never imagined I would be overdue, but now that I am I've decided to milk it for all the sympathy it's worth. Thanks for all the comments, it's nice to see all the people that are keeping tabs, and I'm sure we will have great news for all of you soon!

Homecoming is Saturday

St. Paul's annual homecoming weekend (coupled with the 75th anniversary of Crusader football) is Saturday.  Cara originally joked that she would have the kid then, and it looks like the joke could come true...

If not, Oak Park takes on #1 at noon & Elmwood takes on #2 at 2:00 with the rededication of the field between games.

Trying to keep positive here, but it is getting taxing.  I have been in 'go' mode for much too long now.

Doctor's appointment...

And nothing is resolved. We will though have an ultrasound Monday should nothing start by then.

Evening Came and Morning Followed

And nothing came of it...  Sigh.

It has been miserable weather out here too.  If you haven't been called lately, it is likely that we hav given up calling people as the expectation is that there is news and the rest of the conversation is a let down.  Hopefully we'll be calling soon enough.

Back From The Movie...

If you enjoying laughing at awkward, dark family situations (and if you happemn to have grown up a Yost, that's the only way we've learned to handle it) Little Miss Sunshine is quite funny.  I have to admit I did find it a wee bit dark and depressing but enjoyed it overall.  Cara had fewer misgivings and gave it an unequivocal thumbs up!

We had pizza at Royal Pizza on St. Mary's due to a gift cert and they cook a good, heavily topped pizza.

As for the contractions, who knows what they mean / what they are...  Hope all is well.

Contractions?

Cara seems to think she is having contractions now.  Had three, and they are spaced by 30-50 minutes right now...

A long night awaits?  Cara still wants to go out to our planned date (dinner & Little Miss Sunshine).

I sit, I teach, I wait...

I sit here watching a grade 9 class slaving away at some homework and I am getting a little bored...  Right now teaching is a second thought to the anticipation.  It was quite odd being at the Bomber game Friday and Wally said to me, "Good Luck, next time I see you you're going to be a dad."  It was the first time I thought of it that way.  Also people are wishing us luck all around which is quite nice...

Of course, I shouldn't make it sound like life is difficult for me, Cara is uncomfortable and desperately wants our child out of there.  Last night she couldn't sleep past 3:00 am and almost started cleaning the house.  BTW did I mention that she has a cold right now?  Hopefully it will come to fruition soon as we both just want to hold this kid our arms...

Sunday...

Murphy's Law stinks!  The date has been cancelled but due to both of us feeling under the weather.  I hope a long night of sleep will make things better.

Life & School

All is well, although we are waiting. Cara is having more Braxton-Hicks (sp?) contractions every day... I think it was that modern day philosopher king Homer Jay Simpson that said that the waiting game stinks, and that Hungry Hungry Hippos is better. I concur. I have set the wheels in motion though, as Murphy's Law will bite back we scheduled a dinner & movie for tomorrow after the Bombers game.

School is fine, my classes were all placid so far. Kids are still tired / scared... Oh yeah, the top team won the game 38-0 last night.

School Begins

Today is the first day of classes and as you are all aware, Little Yostie has yet to come and look for his / her shadow... If Little Yostie happens to see his / her shadow the legend states that my bank account will see another 25 years of red.

This means that I am carrying a cell phone with me and am mildly nervous. I talked to the administration and have plan on how to deal with the situation if it should arise during teaching time. Cara also wants Yostie the heck out of there, and has had some major pain in her pelvis. Rowdy is also getting a little antsy, and I think it is twofold with both the impending arrival and the changing of he seasons. Did I mention I am lucky I brought some plants in last night because it hit 0oC (32 F) in Winnipeg overnight! That is also tonight's low.... Winter is coming and there is nothing we can do about it.

The WHSFL football season begins for St. Paul's tonight as we head to Grant Park to take on the Pirates.

Less than 2 weeks to due date!

Aack!

Cara suggested I post a picture of the belly, especially after her dad commented on its largeness a week ago. I took this picture last night before we went out for our (perhaps) last date in a while. It was our 6th anniversary so we met some friends at Tony Roma's and had ribs. One of the fringe benefits of pregnancy is Cara loves ribs, a food she wouldn't eat until a couple of years ago and then only begrudgingly. We then bowled (Cara & I were both under 100!) and went out for coffee on our Esplanade... For you out of town folks, that means we were on a pedestrian bridge, even though that is not what an esplanade really is!

So here's the picture of Cara in all her glory...

Back From Saskatoon

And we tuned them to the score of 45-0. I am happy to report that all is well and nothing is happening. While enjoying the wireless internet connection of the Ramada I came across 2 pieces of hilarious comedy on YouTube, so to brighten your long weekend, here are som laughs...

Intentional comedy (courtesy of Cara who told me about it & AmericanPapist for blogging it)

"Awards Show Banter Isn't Pablum"

Unitentional comedy (courtesy of Bill Simmons of ESPN)
The video is called 'Apache' by ICON from that era we would like to forget about... Disco!

Have a great weekend!
