Ultrasound Numero Duo

Well, we had our 2nd ultarsound and everything continues to appear to be A-OK! Little Yostie wasn't quite so active but was (duh!) bigger than before. We got four pics this time of the child, and his/her legs were crossed the entire time so no sex guessing was possible! We saw the heart beating away, and could see all four chambers.

The pictures this time are of Little Yostie's upper body, his/her crossed legs, the feet and a profile. Cara thinks that Little Yostie is smiling and is aghast because s/he has her nose!

BTW if anyone wants, I scanned the images at a higher resolution than here and printed them using Black's, and if you want I can do that for you too. Email me for info.

Happy Birthday...

To Rowdy. He is 1 year old today, which officially means he is no longer a puppy :(

All he got was a new collar, as his old one was broken. We took him to Bruce Park again last night and he was fetching the ball thrown in the river with abandon. Man, can that dog ever swim! Here's a couple pictures of Rowdy for those who care...

The first picture was taken when I was painting the ceilings. It was a very cute picture, but Rowdy is not allowed on our couch! The second one was taken at Bruce Park, and Rowdy is in the Assiniboine River with a few dogs. The young Golden is Taco,l who was four months when the picture was taken

In other news... Ultrasound #2 is on Tuesday morning!

Movement...

Well last night I took Rowdy to the dog park and let Cara rest at home because she was incredibly tired, which has been more the norm lately.  We had a great time at the park.  Rowdy was fetching and swimming with abandon.

When I got home, Cara had some neat-o news.  It turns out that while she was feeling Little Yostie hoofiing away on her insides, she felt it from the outside.  Little Yostie loves milk and is always active within a few minutes of ingestion of the cow juice, so she saved a half glass for when I got home.  Cara drank it and he was active as expected.  After a few minutes I was able to feel the kicking!  It felt a whole lot like a pulse, but Cara confirmed the candence was that of the hoofing!

So neat...  A shout out to Jackie on moving day.  My big sister is all grown up now with her own house! Just a reminder of what happened with us less than a year after buying a house :)

Home Again, Home Again...

Well we made it! After a nice trip we finally burnt out in Grand Forks and just wanted to be home so we cut our Target experience short. Unfortunately, the border took us 2 hours! I don't know exactly what was happening, but the US guard was screening cars heading towards the Emerson station for something. A Mitsubishi Eclipse with a lone Asian male was one of the cars that was screened so obviously we weren't it. When we finally got to the border, they never even asked how much we spent, rather just alcohol and tobacco. So we were 100% honest, no booze but we had spent our limit plus a bit more!

We ended up buying from Sears a Pooh bedsheet set, a changing table from IKEA along with a dresser for me. Little Yostie inherits my old one. Cara got maternity clothes and Alison went insane (in a good way I assure you, especially if Alison is reading this!) and bought us some really nice baby clothes and what Little Yostie is coming home in... A Tigger hat and booties! I ended up getting a new swimsuit and boxers.

All in all it was a nice weekend. We went out for dinner with Alison, Daisen & Yas at a neat-o and ultra-chic place called Chino Latino. That night Cara and Yas watched (and mocked) the Sniper series of movies on Spike, while I laughed at random websites Yas pointed me to. Check out brunching.com and engrish.com for some good laughs!

Also on Sunday I had a near death experience! Not really, but Daisen & I were at Valleyfair and early in the day it was dead. We got onto every ride we wanted to within one load of having lined up. We went on Wild Thing and Steel Venom a few times and then tried the new Extreme Swing which was cromulent! It was a lot of fun... All in all we rode it about 6-8 times. Around noon lines began to form, but we still only really had to wait long for High Roller (which I never had to wait for before) and the Power Tower. It was a huge amount of fun! I learned something because I rode the rides so many times. Thrill rides suck with your eyes closed, which is the opposite of what I expected. But back to my near death experience. We took our last Wild Thing ride around 3:30, and then did Steel Venom for one last time. At 4:15 we left. At 4:30, Wild Thing lost a car and 18 people were 'injured' (read had soreness), it really wasn't that bad. Stories by Kare 11 (w/ video) & WCCO (w/ pics). Either way, I had fun and will go back. Daisen is officially a teenager, his moodiness makes a pregnant Cara look stable!

In other news... The garlic store at the Mall of America is closed, PBloco isn't what it's cracked up to be, IHOP is a nice Perkins, but not terribly international and Caribou Coffee kicks Starbucks butt, especially in the Chai department!

Cara wants me to point that Little Yostie is moving, moving, moving! We are awaiting Rowdy's arrival from Kenora any minute now too so have a good night everyone!

Made it...

To Minneapolis safely. Almost didn't. Cara asked me how far we were from Alison's and I said "30 minutes" to which she responded that she needed to pee but could wait. Within thirty seconds she quickly changed her mind and we found a Holiday gas quickly. Tomorrow we buy Little Yostie's bedroom.

Kicking & Screaming

At lunch today Little Yostie was really active and walloped Cara right in the belly button, he (or she) has since done it a couple more times. It makes Cara happy now, although she jumped the first time it happened!

Cara's pretty much over the flu and we're getting ready to go to Minneapolis for the long weekend. We will celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday with Tea, Scones, Crumpets and visiting the rebels. There are some good things down there though, as they have better maternity clothes, an IKEA for a change table that matches the crib we got from Phil, and of course Target! I will be going to Valleyfair with Daisen on Sunday too, while Cara and Alison do something girlie... The Twins are out of town, but I will be out a lot more now that Russ has a job at UMinn (well, maybe not but we can all dream!)

In other news, the school has approved my laptop proposal for the next school year, so come July this G3 iBook will be laid to rest in exchange for a MacBook (maybe even a black one)!

Hope all is well... Have a safe Long Weekend!

The Flu

Within hours of our doctor appointment yesterday, Cara started to feel queasy.  This translated into a full stomach flu, which woke us up a bunch of times at night.  Cara is beginning to feel a bit better.  Liquids and a toasted bagel were being held down as of this writing.  Cara notes that Rowdy has been very concerned and has been very helpful all day, which is more than she can say about Ken who is busy blogging.  As editor though Ken can point out that he has made her some tea.

Another Doctor's Appointment

Well, today another doctor's appointment has passed by.  The baby is constantly moving down there so Cara is worried about future sleep.

For those keeping up with old wives' tales: Little Yostie's pulse is 130.  That means it's a boy!  Of course last month it was 158, a girl...  Take it with a grain of salt

Today, Cara begins her SIXTH month of pregnancy...

In other news I have only 13 full days of teaching left...

Both are scary thoughts.

Mother's Day

Well, yesterday we had Ray & Myrna over for dinner and I called my mom tonight. All seems well here. You might ask if I bothered to get Cara anything... I kind of am. She has planned a nice little spa time with her mom, and I figure that has to count for something. Also, we have made some decisions about our house. We will be chopping down the cedar that looked like hell from the living room window and replacing it with a trellis and Sweet Pea climbing flowers. Around the front of that will be a couple of hostas. Lastly we will plant some peonies out back. Now I just have to get cracking... Besides that we have some other projects planned, a new light (not fixture, rather location) for our hallway which will involve some electrical work in the attic and a new sidewalk & patio made from unistone... Thankfully Ray has done both of these things before and will help. Of course we then need to paint the baby's room and set it up, while moving some stuff downstairs. Finally in funds allow, we will buy come new stuff, like a computer from the 21st century, a couch with a pullout bed, etc...

Hope all is well for you lurkers out there!

Little Yostie iMovie, Reprise

Well, I have finally tweaked it sufficiently to my liking, so here is my final cut of Little Yostie in week 18... yost.mov (1.4 MB)

Besides that, not much else to report... The weather in Winnipeg is right cool tonight though! Brrr....

MOVEMENT!

Just forgot. Cara said when I got home from Kairos (a retreat) that had felt some movement. While sitting on teh couch last night she was certain that she was feeling it again. Little Yostie is swimming. Apparently she would have to wait a while to feel motion due to where the placenta had imbedded in her uterus lining, so she has been confusing gas with movement, but apparently this is the real deal.

Cara's Follies

Last night we are out to take Rowdy for a walk and Cara needs to put her socks on. She tried balancing and pulling them, but to no avail. It was even a trick for her to get her socks on as she sat down... She laughed about it, but this is only 5 months! Imagine how awkward it will be in a few more months!

It's been a while...

Well, I haven't posted all that much lately and that is partially due to being really busy at school. Cara is in Week 22 starting today, and she is showing something else. I will soon get some pictures of her showing. Last week Cara walked in the Supercities Walk for MS, and had a good time. Phil was motoring about on his new wheelchair and things seem to going well for them. Cara brought Rowdy with her and he was really well behaved, and was looking oh so nice after a trip to the groomers. Finally! The dog is beginning to learn! I guess his nuts do make all the difference... Here's a picture of our puppy after the Walk, notice the red scarf from the Walk.

Anyhow, beyond that I have a pile of other things to say. Spring has sprung, but we got a frost that killed the pepper plant I had nurtured all winter... We washed our windows and (dad will be proud) birds are trying to kill themselves at a rate of one every 10 or some minutes. I guess I will post some stuff in the near future, but for now here's a picture of Cara reading "What to Expect When You're Expecting"
