Yesterday Sucked...

Well, I guess that is a little bit of a harsh assessment, as we had a good visit to the wading pool and mom & dad spent some time with Teresa, but I took Teresa & Rowdy to the dog park around 6:30, and as usual I throw a ball in the river for him to fetch... No problems, but he runs in the river in anticipation with another dog and I hear some whining, which I figured was the other dog nervous about swimming in deep water, so I throw the ball in and Rowdy doesn't want to go for it, but he eventually does with coaxing, zig zagging out to the ball instead of taking a straight line, kind of odd. He runs straight out and brings the ball to me running normally. He started licking his leg though so I looked a little closer and there is a 1.5 inch clean cut above his paw.

A trip to the vet emerg, anesthesia, 4 stitches, $650, and a midnight pickup and Rowdy is fixed up. It turned out he severed a tendon, which is worrisome as the vet pointed out that everything is under a great deal of tension in the leg so he could easily pop it. He has to keep a bandage on for a few days, stiches in for 14 and probably not do any major exercise / running / swimming (he is not to get it wet, period for 14 - 21 days)... Right on time to go to the lake, poor thing.

Beyond that, there is not much to report about Teresa. She has been going to the local wading pool and finally let grandpa read her stories. Here are a few pics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Teresa... We will be using this in pools where she can't touch & Kenora

Mom is reading Curious George.

Dad is reading Munsch

Teresa was wandering around yesterday with a with a gift bag on her head, unable to see, lifting a bit to make sure she wouldn't ram into things and then walking... IIRC Ed got French Fries in the eyes playing a game like this once...

Our poor puppy with his bandage. We also need to use the lampshade when we aren't near him to make sure he isn't licking.

Ode to Mt. Clotheseverst

As I carefully fold my sheets,
Smoothing out the wrinkles,
Bringing corner to corner...
Lovingly, I think of You, my Lord.

The pile of laundry seemingly grows beside me,
As I strive to keep up
With this never-ending chore.

But, in my laundry room...
I thank You, my dear Lord,
For loving me and allowing me
To serve You in my family.

Tyrannical Diva on the Prowl

Okay folks, here's the thing....Teresa is almost two, and has the attitude of a fourteen year old. She has decided that listening is optional and any disciplinary measures Ken and I try to enforce are hilarious. I'm not concerned though, we'll win this round. She may have inherited my stubbornness (my Mom has still not stopped laughing) but I still have the stamina to outlast her. Don't get me wrong, she's still great....in an independent kind of way.

In other news, I think it's safe to say she is potty trained, and not having to change 6 or 7 diapers a day is inexplicably great. Teresa is also speaking in sentences (such as they are) and can count to ten. She also spontaneously spelled stop the other day. That seems to be an anomaly which I will chalk up to spontaneous brilliance:) Teresa's favourite saying to date is "way way hot" in reference to anything with steam coming off of it. We can thank her Auntie Andrea for that contribution, although it was originally in reference to a fruit stand guy. Teresa also seems to have developed an obsession with Curious George, and we went to the library yesterday to pick up some different George books. The reason for this was, and I'm not going to lie, out of desperation I had taken to hiding the ones we have so I didn't have to read them ten times a day, so I decided I needed some variety. Teresa also LOVES anything to do with pigs, despite her Uncle Ed and Auntie Tarra's efforts to point her in the direction of Polar bears.

As for the other Yost child, things are trucking along. I am slowly regaining my energy and ability to eat foods containing protein. Onions are still out, which depresses Ken to no end, but he does not get much sympathy from me. Our first doctor appointment is on Aug. 5th, and I am lucky enough to have the same doctor I had with Teresa. It is at that appointment we will get to hear the heartbeat of our latest little one and make sure all is well.

Here are a few pictures of Teresa, for those of you that like that sort of thing:)

Teresa reading...you guessed it Curious George!

Teresa's new game.

And the view from the front.

Look! I can put my shoes on, ALL BY MYSELF!

Take this facial expression, put it on a 14 year old, and you get "God...my parents totally suck!" Now you know what I'm dealing with.

This is still not Cara (& I have no new pictures)

I know that means that we are slacking but Cara is quite tired from Yostie II brooding within, although apparently it is getting better and I have been busy with classes. 1 class is now done and all I have to do for the other one is a group presentation tomorrow morning.

We were up at the lake this weekend, and Sarah made it out Saturday night. Our daughter is cute, but she has begun to really figure out the tantrum thing. Potty training is going well, although we are still working on (as I call it) "The Two Bomb". We had to throw out our first pair of panties Tuesday, and she is getting better at it but sometimes waits too long to tell us and she tells us as it is coming. She has a penchant though for sitting on the seat and crying out "Oh God! Oh God! Oh God!...". Cara & I have no clue where that comes form. She is also getting used to the potty on the toilet, so hopefully soon enough we won't even be stressed by this. Saturday was gorgeous at the beach in the morning, then horrible all evening, leading into Sunday morning being awful, but clearing up around noon for a gorgeous afternoon. In other good news, the bakery offers homemade fresh breads now that are good. Not sure what else to report, but I am sure Cara will have some pictures / stories to tell.

Update...

Well, not much of one really as Cara has promised a post about the whole potty training thing & the rest of our lives. She was busy the last two days getting ready for a dinner guest (Fr. Joe Mroz) today...

As for me, I am busy with classes which sucks. I am happy that I am pounding through the assignments like a keener though and should be done everything save a group presentation on Monday by this time tomorrow!

I am so far ahead of the curve...

From today's National Post on Thursday about the Stampede (although I am disappointed the Ex didn't have deep fried Coke)

You may though recall such delectations from posts from cutting edge bloggers being reported on weeks ago

Deep Throat was nothing compared to this! Pulitzer here we come (Cara did write the post, but it is my blog :)!

Potty Training

Other than Teresa having the cutest little tushie ever now that (save sleeping times) now that she is panties, and having her add 50% to driving times due to the need to stop we have been making progress. Yesterday both diapers were dry & she made it through the day with a single pair of panties. Apparently she has even had a successful, um, how to say this?, uh... solid excretion this morning!

Progress is being made...

Potty Training - Day 3

Well, we're 3 days into it and things are progressing... Although slower than I liked, as I had a vision of our super daughter understanding us and getting it in no time flat. This of course was not helped by Myrna's myths she told of Cara being trained in a day. As Cara has noted, she can understand why parents give up after a couple of days.

The key is that we are learning too. Teresa's pee cue is non-verbal, as she grabs her (as she says) 'gi-nah' and we have to rush to pull off the panties and get her on the potty. Every day has gotten better with fewer (and smaller) accidents. She is a stubborn kid though - today after her nap (and her diaper was bone dry) I put her straight on to the potty, and I fed her a pile of liquid and she still didn't go for an hour and a half! Once she went though, she was giving the pee cue every 5-10 minutes after that. Cara had a great idea of giving her her after pee reward on the potty, as teresa sometimes does not finish what she starts. Every day gets better though, so all hope is not lost.
