Wednesday & Bored

Well, Cara's home sick today and I'm at school overseeing tests so why not post something? Things are developing well right now, and Cara doesn't go see the doc for another 3 weeks. The good news at our house is that Rowdy is getting better behaved. He is rarely nipping during play and can now stay and lay down... That was my only real concern was how a dog would react, even though I knew that Rowdy was a puppy with toddlers around I wanted to be sure he was well controlled.

Beyond that we are working on figuring out what to do with the house. We want to install some new lights (including a whole new location that will test my wiring skills). Anyone know the number for the fire department? We are also looking at colours and Pooh related schemes for the nursery. Hopefully we will have that done by late June, so we can spend the summer working on other stuff, like installing a new patio / sidewalk.

Heartbeat

Also, when we were at the doctor's in the afternoon they caught the heartbeat for the first time. We taped it and I wanted to post it for all to hear, but when it came time to import the audio, all we had an analog to digital video converter. I was using iMovie, so I figured, hey why not try to put the ultrasound pics in the background? It's my first iMovie and I will actually be tweaking it b/c there are a few things I do not like about it...

Stupid blogger does not let me post not images, so I have to link to it from my personal webspace. My Child's Beating Heart

Ultrasound Pics

I know I sent this around by email a while back, but I feel now like I must post all the old stuff here now. Anyhow, it has been the coolest thing so far.

This is the one close up we got. Kind of neat in a Skelator sort of way. You can make out the eyes, nose, mouth and head.

Here's Little Yostie sucking his thumb.

A frontal view with his / her arms crossed

More thumb sucking

A side view of our child.

Anyhow, Little Yostie was very active through the whole ultrasound moving about constantly. As for gender... We don't want to know so the nurse didn't say anything. If you see anything in the pics it's probably the umbilical cord. What I found amazing was what she claimed to see. She saw both kidneys, and even after pointing them out there was no way I could tell the different in the shade of grey. Also, they measured blood flow around the bladder. I asked how, and it turns out it is the Doppler shift in the ultrasound waves as the waves strike blood either flowing toward or away from the sensor. Stunning that it is that sensitive! We were told all is well, and Cara's risk factor - Spina Bifida is likely not there, as it is an 'obvious' flaw to someone who looks at hundreds of ultrasounds. More posts coming soon...

The Beginnings

I guess this actually began many moons ago... But I decided to start this now because Wally has shamed me into it. The blog will replace my incessant emails around and about to everyone about our child...

Cara is now in week 20. Halfway there. Me, a dad, there should be laws against this :)
