So Father's Day began with an amazing thing - Teresa slept until almost 7:45. We are beginning to think that maybe we should invest in blackout blinds, as that may be why she wakes up, the fact that it is getting light out.
I then cooked up some bacon and eggs, ate those and then wandered to the bakery with Rowdy. The bakery appears to be similar to last year, in as much as they only actually make from scratch the cinnamon buns. They also appear to cook cookies from a pre-bought dough (macadamia nut, toffee chunk, and a couple of others), they have KUB bread, a couple of computers, and the dining room. I get the impression that they make their own food for the lunch menu. I picked up a cinnamon bun, and it was dry but OK... It was a dense bun, and probably would have been better if it had been grilled as they asked if I wanted it. During the walk though I stopped to pick up Rowdy's poop and was swarmed by skeeters, so we chose to drive to the church as it was damp and I didn't want to subject Teresa to 10 millions bites, as we had yet to figure out a good way to do the mosquito netting (the stroller has large vent holes that can't be easily covered.
Mass was sparsely attended, as I gather this being the first really crappy weekend of the last couple many people chose to stay home. The pastor was doing his second mass back after dealing with health issues. After returning home we took some father's day pictures... Here they are, note the onesie, saying "Future Valedictorian"
Well, we saw a bunch of wildlife, as eight pelicans flew in formation (Monday they were all fishing out front), about a jillion cormorants were in the water and while I went on a walk with Rowdy
I saw a Loon and eight to ten (hard to count with mom in the way) loon chicks. BTW I checked wikipedia, so they are chicks! Rowdy I went all the way around the point to the front beach for the first time ever. He is pretty good on the rocks and only occasionally missteps, although one jump down from a tall rock I thought he was going to die... I got home and Teresa was still napping, as was Cara, so I read a bit of my Father's Day gift. Cara (& Teresa) got me Kermit's guide to Life
The evening I cooked some ribs with edamame (fancy word for Soy Beans) and leaving Cara at home, I walked to Lanky's with Rowdy & Teresa (who we put in the car seat to keep the skeeters away, although 4 found their way in eventually). It was about 7:30 on a quiet Sunday and my hands were being eaten, as I had washed the repellant off of them prior to eating, and I was rewarded with a delicious triple scoop cone... Actually, those rat-bastards had already closed just because the business they were getting wasn't paying the wages of the workers! Freakin' capitalism biting me it the arse again. Workers Unite!
Speaking of which, one of the benefits I found out about in Winnipeg School Division is 10 weeks of paternity leave at 90% salary. Now we just have to time future births correctly :)
On the walk home I stopped by the front beach and Rowdy really wanted to romp in the sand but the stinking Safety Officers were still there! The world was conspiring against me! I made it home, soaked in vinegar, gave myself a sponge bath and proceeded to CRUSHIFY Cara at rummy, so I went to bed with a smile on my face.
Monday started out with me wondering if I would get to swim again as it was cloudy and quite breezy. Rowdy got a good ball chase / swim in through the choppy waters. The skies then opened up and it was sunny! Before we left I dragged Cara down to the front with Teresa (aside: Cara was miserable due to allergies she only gets at Grand) and plopped Teresa on the now soaking wet sand. Teresa was better, and I know it was because I kept telling her how important it was that she likes the beach. We then took her into the water, where I let the ripples brush against her feet, and no tears, then came the feet in the (cooler than Saturday) water, and no tears, then sitting in the water, and not tears, then sitting in deeper water, and tears...
Ah well, it was an important step. More pictures of this seminal event are here:
We drove into the city before lunch so we would be able to get a few things done before the day was over. And thus ended my first Father's Day weekend (extended edition).
